I use a number of different techniques to produce my textile art, including hand stitching, embroidery, quilting, and free motion embroidery*. Though I use a sewing machine for much of my work, it is never automated, but instead guided by my hand. Much of my current work is thread drawing on tulle fabric.
* Free motion embroidery is a technique where I use the sewing machine to 'draw' or 'paint' with thread. Lowering the machine's feed dogs allows me to move the fabric freely under the needle instead of letting the feed dogs dictate the path. Using an embroidery hoop and water-soluble stabiliser gives me more control, but that doesn't mean disasters don't happen!
